Quinlan Private, the property investment company that bought the Savoy Group of hotels for £750m last May, has announced plans to expand the Connaught hotel in Mayfair, W1.
The group, which has been renamed the Maybourne Hotel Group following the sale of its flagship, The Savoy, to Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal last week, will build 35 new suites at the hotel, taking its bedroom count to 127, as well as adding a spa to the property.
Maybourne also said it was retaining the services of architect Richard Rogers on a “programme of improvement and development” at the Berkeley hotel in Knightsbridge, SW1.
Following the sale of The Savoy, on which Quinlan was understood to have made a £50m profit, Maybourne said it was now “actively seeking other opportunities to acquire and develop super-luxury hotels globally”.
Quinlan Private chairman Derek Quinlan said: “We remain committed to a substantial investment programme for The Berkeley, Claridge’s and The Connaught. The appointment of Richard Rogers is a sign of our determination to enhance these assets.”
Mayfair hotel Claridge’s is also part of the Maybourne Hotel Group.
