Quintain unveils plans for second leg of Wembley masterplan

Quintain Developments has unveiled new designs for the second stage of its Wembley masterplan, after reordering the phasing of the project.

Stage two had been set aside for a 650,000 sq ft gaming complex, which Quintain is to develop in a jv with Caesars on a 13-acre site north of the existing Wembley Arena & Exhibition Centre in north-west London.

However, the continuing wrangle over the gambling bill and good progress on assembling land originally set aside for stage three means that Quintain is bringing forward this area first.

The new stage two plan, which has outline consent, is being developed jointly with the London Development Agency and covers an 11-acre site within the Southern Gateway area, between the stadium and Wembley Stadium station.

It proposes to add 700,000 sq ft of mixed-use development and 500 homes to the 5.3m sq ft first stage, and includes a civic centre.

The LDA is also spending £20m on a new public square between the station and the stadium, and a bridge designed by London Eye architect Marks Barfield.
