Work on the electrification of some parts of the rail lines to Bristol and Oxford will be deferred indefinitely, railway minister Paul Maynard said.
Four parts of the programme are involved – the lines between Oxford and Didcot Parkway, Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads, Bristol Temple Meads and Parkway, and the Thames Valley lines to Henley and Windsor.
The work is expected to take place before 2024.
