Railway group says southern train stations `left to rot’

The Railway Development Society submitted a report to rail regulators which found that train stations in the south look as if they have been “left to rot”. It found that 23 stations in Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire and Sussex, were in poor condition.

Connex South Central, came under fire in particular. Some 16 of the 20 stations it manages were described as deficient in at least one important respect.

Connex said it intended to repaint and refurbish all South Coast stations by the end of the summer. Great Eastern said it would spend £3m on refurbishing 57 stations in four years.
