The boom in pub takings during last year’s heatwave was a distant memory last month as wet weather dampened bar sales. According to the Coffer Peach Business Tracker, like-for-like sales across the pub and bar sector fell by 1.2 per cent, well below the 2.8 per cent increase in June 2018.
By contrast, the poor weather drove a 6.1 per cent jump in sales for restaurant groups. Last year, the barbecue weather and England’s World Cup run sent sales falling by 1.8 per cent.
