Ramsay Healthcare has bought Capio UK for £193m.
Capio owns 22 hospitals including Nightingale Clinic, a favourite of celebrity rehab patients.
The Australian buyer saw off competition from the likes of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise, Life Healthcare and a clutch of buyout firms.
Ramsay said it would use the sites as a platform to expand in the UK and Europe.
