Rates avoidance ‘costs £230m’

Business-Rates-generic-THUMBBUDGET 2015:  Business rates avoidance is costing the taxpayer as much as £230m per year, according to estimates published today by the government.

The figure was calculated by the Local Government Association and set out in a Treasury document summarising responses to its consultation on rates avoidance.

The government said most local authorities which had responded to the consultation “felt the scale of avoidance is growing”.
