RBA cuts rates to record low 2%

The Reserve Bank of Australia cut interest rates by 25 basis points to a record low 2%, as was widely expected.

The move comes against a background of a generally weak economy and a strong currency, contrasting with a buoyant housing market.

The RBA noted that while house prices were continuing to rise strongly in Sydney, the picture elsewhere was varied.
