RBS set for eighth consecutive annual loss

The Royal Bank of Scotland is set to record a loss for the eighth year in a row, after saying it would take a £2.5bn hit as a result of a clean-up exercise.

The charges include a new £1.5bn provision relating to the miss-selling of residential mortgage-backed securities in the US, bringing total provisioning for that to £3.8bn.
