Kier Property has been selected as the preferred bidder to deliver a mixed-use redevelopment of the area surrounding the civic centre in the heart of Reading, Berkshire.
Reading borough council has chosen the development arm of Kier Group to invest in and deliver the scheme on Hosier Street.
Plans for shops and flats on the site will now be drawn up.
The civic centre will be closed and demolished once staff have moved to the 85,000 sq ft Plaza West in Reading next year.
Reading council leader Jo Lovelock said: “This represents a significant step forward in the process to regenerate the area around the civic centre.”
Kier Property director Leigh Thomas added: “We are delighted to be selected as preferred bidder on this scheme. We plan to work in partnership with all members of the team to deliver a mixed-use development that the partners and local community can be proud of.”
