Real estate employers were absent from Stonewall’s latest list of top global workplaces for LGBTQ-plus staff, with top performers mainly hailing from the legal and finance sectors.
The top performers this year were: Capgemini, Fidelity International, GSK, HSBC, and law firms Baker McKenzie, Clifford Chance, Dentons, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, and Herbert Smith Freehills.
Silver winners included Amazon, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners and Zurich.
Stonewall’s latest global workplace equality index awarded 22 employers gold, silver and bronze award statuses based on their work across seven sections of inclusive practices.
Those seven categories were: workplace policy; inclusion of LGBTQ+ employee network groups; supporting talent and development of LGBTQ+ staff; safe travel policies; supply chain vetting; human rights work; and LGBTQ+ advocacy.
Stonewall noted that 35% of returning entrants scored higher than they did in last year’s awards, showing marked improvement in the ways in which they supported their LGBTQ+ staff.
The charity said: “At a time when governments across the world are rolling back LGBTQ+ people’s rights, the role of businesses in championing the rights and inclusion of LGBTQ+ communities couldn’t be more important.”
Dentons’ work was cited as an exemplar for community engagement initiatives that educate leaders and stakeholders on how to champion LGBTQ+ communities and their rights, both within workplaces and externally.
The law firm responded to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine by partnering with Polish charity Equaversity to ensure trans and HIV-positive Ukrainians had access to medical supplies, and support trans and non-binary Ukrainians to safely leave the country.
