Real image

Apparently, if you are an architectural modelmaker your days are numbered, according to Real Image. They claim that their method of producing 3D visual images will replace the modelmaker’s art.

Real Image is a breakaway section of the BCCH architectural practice in Stevenage. They use the RUCAPS computer-aided design system to make “movies” and pictures of proposed developments. The system has been used by Harlow council, which wanted to promote a new housing development but needed public support. Real Image input all the parameters and component parts into the computer, producing 3D views which matched a series of photographs taken on site. The photographs showed the existing landscape — while the computer was able to produce visual impressions of what it would look like when developed.

A video was produced from the raw material and, supplemented by a live commentary, presented at a local inquiry. The public was convinced and, apparently, Harlow council was pleased with both the video and the speed of preparation. Real Image claim that this presentation also has the advantage of being good value for money.
