Stoke-on-Trent council today granted outline planning consent for Realis Estates’ £250m redevelopment of the East West Centre in Hanley.

Developer Realis plans to transform the existing 1960s precinct into a mixed-use scheme that will include up to 685,000 sq ft of shops, cafés and restaurants, a multi-screen cinema, hotel, bus station, public spaces and improved parking.

Duncan Mathieson, managing director of Realis Estates, said: “We are pleased that Stoke-on-Trent City Council has resolved to grant outline planning consent for this much-needed regeneration project.  Despite the challenging economic environment, our plans for investing over £250m in North Staffordshire remain very much on track.”

Work will begin on the detailed designs over the next few months, with work due to start on site in 2010.
