Historic England has said the Crooked House pub should be rebuilt.
The building, in Himley, Staffordshire, was reduced to rubble by its new owners after a fire, despite being told by local planning officials to preserve the structure.
Duncan Wilson, chief executive of the heritage organisation, said he would like to see the pub rebuilt.
There has been silence from its owners, Carly and Adam Taylor.
