Record numbers of private renters are being made homeless, figures from the Department for Communities and Local Government show.
Some 19,000 households became homeless over the last year, a rise of 200% compared with the level five years earlier.
Affordability is an increasingly significant issue, with more households at the end of a private tenancy unable to find alternative accommodation without help, the department said.
