Record passenger numbers at Manchester airport

Annual passenger numbers at Manchester airport have reached a record 22m, boosted by extra services to Dubai and new routes to Asia and the US, the latest data show.

Managing director Ken O’Toole said the airport had strong potential in the future, and that if the government’s Northern Powerhouse plans led to improved travel times, more routes could become viable. He noted that capacity at the airport could make it an alternative to London’s travel hubs.

The airport is investing £1bn on improving facilities, including adding more retail space.
