Redevco to revamp George House

Dutch developer Redevco submitted plans this week for a 290,000 sq ft office building on Glasgow’s George Square.

The scheme, designed by Reiach and Hall Architects, involves the redevelopment of the 1970s George House on the northern side of the square.

As well as offices, the scheme contains a mix of restaurants and convention facilities.

Redevco said that the development would improve the visual appeal of the nearby College of Building and Printing, which dominates the surrounding skyline.

If approved, the development could be completed by 2014, when George Square is likely to become a focal point of Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games celebrations.

Existing occupiers include Ernst & Young, which has a lease expiry in 2011, and Royal Bank of Scotland.
