Redland Aggregates has lost a planning appeal against Norwich Council’s refusal to allow a ready mixed concrete plant near the former Colman’s site near the railway station.
The council and Colman site occupiers Britvic Soft Drinks and Van den Bergh Foods successfully argued that customer confidence would be seriously undermined by fear of cement dust contamination of their products. The inspector upheld their argument saying the 60-80m gap between the two sites would result in an unacceptable risk to food safety
Britvic had warned that if it lost the appeal it would consider relocating from Norwich.
Chesterton’s director of planning, Alan Cave, was expert witness for the council.
