Redrow buys £85m residential development

Redrow Homes has bought a 12-acre site in Farnborough, Hampshire, for a residential development valued at £85m.

The scheme, next to Farnborough Business Park, was bought by the Basingstoke-based developer from SEGRO.

The development, called Farnborough Central, will total 476 homes, including the refurbishment of 85 apartments in existing buildings, 194 new-build apartments and 54 new townhouses.

30% of the new homes will be affordable.

The site was previously occupied by the Royal Aircraft Establishment, and the wider site will continue to be home to the Farnborough Aerodrome and Farnborough International Airshow.

The RAE campus was sold to SEGRO in 1999.

Planning permission has been granted for Redrow’s residential scheme, and work has already begun on the first phase.

Geoff Blake, land director for Redrow Homes Southern, said: “With detailed planning consent now in place and full ownership of the site confirmed we are delighted to be on site and preparing the first of two existing buildings for very careful and sympathetic renovation.”
