Reform planning to save convenience stores, says Bestway boss

Bestway managing director Dawood Pervez has called on the government to make a concerted effort to stop convenience stores shutting down.

The wholesaler pointed out that last year had been brutal for Britain’s retail sector, with independent shops shutting down more than at any other point in the past five years. This year is likely to be a repeat of the picture, due to rising costs.

Pervez said: “Society should look at the use class system for planning and look at the business rates system and say, is it fair? And is it fair that an independent, an entrepreneur has to pay corporation tax on everything he does while Amazon transfers the profits abroad?”
