Regal appoints Lord Harrington as chair

Regal has appointed Lord Richard Harrington to its board as non-executive chair.

Harrington will be tasked with helping the firm with the next phase of its growth strategy.

Harrington has extensive experience in the real estate sector, having run a development business for many years across residential, commercial and hotel sectors before entering politics.

Most recently, he led the Harrington Review of Foreign Direct Investment that was published in November 2023, making wide recommendations to reorganise government with the intention of attracting more foreign investment into the UK.

Jonathan Seal, chief executive at Regal, said: “Lord Harrington brings extensive and valuable experience across a range of sectors, including deep knowledge and understanding of the global investor community. I know he will provide immense strategic guidance and advice to the Regal board as we seek to execute the next stage of our growth strategy.”

Harrington added: “Regal is a truly extraordinary business, with a terrific history and a highly knowledgeable board. Its fully integrated model and broad span across London real estate have created a growth trajectory that sets it apart from others in the sector.“

Harrington’s political career began after being elected as the Conservative MP for Watford from 2010-2019. He served as the prime minister’s apprenticeship adviser as well as pensions minister and business and industry minister, before standing down in 2019.

He was made a life peer in 2022 and most recently served as minister of state (minister for refugees) jointly in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and the Home Office between March 2022 and September 2022.

As part of his role, Harrington created and pioneered the Homes for Ukraine sponsorship scheme.
