Sheffield Hallam University has become the first occupier to sign up for space in the business hub at the heart of Related Argent and Barnet Council’s £8bn Brent Cross Town development, NW2.
The site will be the university’s first campus outside of Sheffield, covering 110,000 sq ft across the lower six floors of the scheme’s first commercial building. It is expected to open in 2025/26 and will target up to 5,000 students by 2030.
The building will have a low-carbon hybrid timber and concrete structure. ESG and sustainability commitments also include renewable energy use and adoption of Brent Cross Town development’s sitewide district heating network, targeting a four-star NABERS performance certification, payment of the London Living Wage and adoption of Brent Cross Town’s wellbeing framework.
The university will focus its degree-course offering at Brent Cross on health and wellbeing, business, finance, management, digital and technological skills.
Related Argent partner Nick Searl said: “[Sheffield Hallam] University’s commitment is a milestone in the broader evolution of the development, which is gaining significant momentum and attracting an ever-widening group of partners who believe in what we are doing and want to be part of that journey.”
Sheffield Hallam University vice-chancellor Chris Husbands said the move provides the university with “an outstanding opportunity” to “develop wider relationships” and expand its profile.
The leasing deal follows recent news of Related Argent’s £600m partnership with Invesco Real Estate for the first phase of the scheme, which will include 800 homes overlooking the recently opened Claremont Park.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said: “This partnership between Sheffield Hallam University, Brent Cross Town and other partners demonstrates what can be achieved when different sectors come together to invest into London’s future and help to build a better, more sustainable and more prosperous city for everyone.”
Cushman & Wakefield advised Related Argent.
