The government plans to consult on a redesign of its rent-a-room tax relief that currently allows homeowners to earn up to £7,500 a year without paying tax.
The redesign will look to align the relief more closely with its intended purpose of increasing the supply of long-term lodgings, rather than those using the Airbnb holiday lettings website and similar websites.
No timeframe has been given for the consultation, but details could be announced in the autumn budget, with implementation to start next year.
