A landmark ruling against Game Group administrator PwC could see the retailer’s Oxford Street flagship shut imminently.
PwC has refused to pay the £100,000-plus bill for three months’ advanced rent to Lazari GP that Game had been due to settle the day before its collapse. PwC has refused payment on the basis it only became responsible for the store the day after the rent was due. PwC is fighting Lazari in court over the rent bill but the landlord has won the right to force Game Retail off the premises at any point while the matter is being settled. A court order has given Lazari the right to send bailiffs to drill out the locks immediately. PwC’s legal representative said the matter was “largely between OpCapita [the new Game owner] and Lazari”.
