Rental prices fall as landlords find it’s less grim up north

Rental prices in the north of England have fallen for the first time in four years as supply catches up with demand, according to figures from Hamptons International.

The monthly lettings index from the estate agent suggests that the average cost of renting in the region fell by 0.3% in April compared with the previous year to £622 a month. This was the first annual fall since June 2014.

Hamptons International is owned by Countrywide, the largest estate agency chain in Britain, and has some of the UK’s most reliable property data.
