Resi sales fall by half as stamp holiday ends

The number of homes sold in the UK fell by more than half last month.

HM Revenue & Customs said yesterday that there were 76,930 residential property transactions in October, 52% lower than in September and 28.2% lower than October 2020.

The expiry of the stamp duty tax break has been cited as the main reason for the fall.

About 842,250 home sales have taken place across the UK during this financial year so far, the highest total in the past decade.
