Glass manufacturer NSG Group and its UK business Pilkington have launched a public consultation on a former glassworks site in St Helens, near Liverpool.
The group has relocated its 200-year-old glass production from Watson Street to a furnace at nearby Greengate Works.
The landowner is now in talks with St Helens Council on regenerating the site, with a residential-led masterplan comprising 700 homes and 150,000 sq ft of employment floorspace.
The proposed units will be a mix of affordable housing, family homes, later living/retirement homes, town houses, and apartments.
NSG’s public consultation document said: “The focus for the employment use will be in the life science and manufacturing sectors, supporting wider development opportunities focussed around the nearby Glass Futures building.
“The site has been identified by Liverpool City Region as a Life Science Investment Zone, meaning it will be significantly more attractive to occupiers in this sector. There will be a range of unit sizes, from smaller start-up spaces to larger, more bespoke buildings for confirmed end users.”
