Residents attack C&C’s West Kensington hotel plans

Plans by Liberty International subsidiary Capital & Counties to build a 10-storey, 300-bedroom aparthotel next to Olympia exhibition centre have been attacked by locals.

Residents in West Kensington have teamed up to form the Avonmore Action Group to co-ordinate a protest against the proposal.

Plans have recently been submitted for the scheme on the corner of Hammersmith Road and Lyons Walk, W14.

The action group claims that the £30m scheme has been described by one councillor as a “monstrous over-development which does nothing for the local community”.

The residents said the tower would directly overlook dozens of homes, would “destroy” their privacy and “severely reduce” the amount of daylight to their homes.

David Morton, spokesman for Avonmore Action Group, said: “The proposed building does nothing at all to meet the requirements of a development within the Conservation Area.

“The proposed hotel is one third again taller than Olympia Two. It is completely out of scale for the adjacent Victorian houses and flats.”

A meeting of Hammersmith & Fulham’s planning committee on 18 June deferred any decision on the application until 3 September and requested further information on the loss of light to residential properties.
