Residents charged up to £750 a year to park outside their homes

Local councils are charging residents as much as £750 a year to park outside their homes, with those in parts of Birmingham and Manchester being charged the most.

The research, by Churchill Car Insurance, also highlighted charges to replace lost permits, and higher fees for houses with more than one car.

The average charge among the 433 councils surveyed was £59.17; some 38% of councils did not impose any residential parking charges.
