Retail restructuring giant leaves Deloitte

One of the UK’s best-known insolvency practitioners, Neville Kahn, is leaving Deloitte.

Kahn, a managing partner in Deloitte’s financial advisory business, has acted on some of the most high-profile insolvencies in the UK’s decimated retail landscape, including HMV, Woolworth’s, Blockbuster and Comet.

He has also worked on well-known receiverships in the commercial property sector, including acting as joint administrator for the Gherkin in 2014, the Gemini portfolio in 2012 and the former R20 pubs portfolio in 2011.

However, along with two other Deloitte partners, he is currently under investigation by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales over the Comet administration, which cost the UK public £45m.

According to The Times this morning, the investigation is reaching a conclusion with a second liquidator, FRP advisory, appointed this month in a private court hearing.

Richard Bell took over the leadership of the UK practice in March, with Kahn made financial advisory leader across Deloitte North West Europe.

A spokesperson for Deloitte said: “Neville Kahn is leaving the firm to set up an investment fund. This is something he has considered for some time and is unrelated to the Comet insolvency or any investigation by the Institute.”
