Retailers are lining up to get into Stockport, Greater Manchester, despite the Trafford Centre’s potential to draw custom away.
Disney Store recently snapped up a 174 sq m (1,875 sq ft) shop in Hammerson’s Mersey Way shopping centre. The retailer has signed a 15 year lease without breaks, at £135,000 pa. The rent equates to £1,399 per sq m (£130 per sq ft) zone A and the deal included three months rent free. Disney represented itself.
Another unit, of the same size, is under offer to Sports Division. Again, the lease is for 15 years without breaks, with three months rent free. But the rent is higher, at £140,000 pa, or £1,453 per sq m (£135 per sq ft) zone A. Whitelaw Blakey & Co acted for Sports Division, while Cheetham & Mortimer and Donaldsons are the letting agents.
Cheetham & Mortimer’s Darren Moorehouse commented: “Stockport is close to the Trafford Centre, bur these retailers are still prepared to do deals which underlines their confidence in the town.”
