Retired solicitor faces negligence claim

Retired solicitor Abraham Mayir Lehrer today faced a renewed negligence claim over his handling of a north London property transaction.

In March the High Court cleared him of allegations brought by Freddy Jacob Ezekiel, who claimed that he had mishandled the execution of a charge over property in Cricklewood.

Evans-Lombe J ruled that Ezekiel had left it too late to launch the proceedings and granted Lehrers application for summary dismissal. He said that Ezekiel had no real prospect of bringing the case within section 32(1)(b) of the Limitation Act 1980 upon which the success of the claim depended.

Ezekiel has launched an appeal against the decision.

The hearing continues.
