Proposals to kick off the transformation of Littlemore House on the Oxford Science Park have been approved.
The move is in line with the recommendation given by the planning officer.
The redevelopment of Littlemore House, designed by Foster + Partners, will deliver a 213,000 sq ft facility comprising research laboratories, recreation hall, central atrium, restaurant, administrative space and storage.
In September, the Lawrence J Ellison Institute for Transformative Medicine submitted a stand-alone application covering the redevelopment of Littlemore House after the initial proposals for a wider development were held back.
The wider scheme included both Littlemore House and plot 18, featuring an elevated walkway joining the two sites to enhance access and allow for collaboration between the buildings. It was approved by the local council in April this year but later objected to by the Environment Agency on biodiversity grounds in relation to plot 18.
The Environment Agency removed its objections and recommended conditions earlier this month but the planning officer said the stand-alone planning approval for Littlemore House forms a “fallback” position for the institute should the wider scheme fall through for any reason.
