Emma Reynolds has been appointed shadow secretary of state for communities and local government.
Reynolds, MP for Wolverhampton North East, has been promoted from shadow minister for housing following a reshuffle of the shadow Cabinet.
The MP will now be the chief spokesperson for the Labour Party on all issues relating to local government and communities, including housing.
Reynolds said: “This will be an important and challenging role during the next parliament, given the Tory government’s continued commitment to large cuts in local government spending and services. I already know from my own constituency in Wolverhampton, where the council’s grant from central government has been cut by 51%, the very real problems this is causing for local people.”
