Insignia is planning to stop using the name Richard Ellis for UK retail work.
The news emerged at this week’s Mapic retail property exhibition in Cannes.
The agent plans to rebrand all retail business under the name Insignia Retail Group. The Richard Ellis name will stay in the UK for other work.
The change, which is expected to be announced within a few months, may also be helpful in Europe, where Insignia cannot use the Richard Ellis name because the former Richard Ellis International business was bought by rival US agent CB.
Fears that the terrorist attacks of 11 September would hit this year’s Mapic proved unfounded. The three-day retail property show opened 20% bigger than last year with 636 companies exhibiting. There were, however, fewer British exhibitors; 78 appeared this time compared with 100 in 2000.
A British stand was one of the biggest attractions.
