Residential land specialist Richard Thomas has returned to Montagu Evans to bolster its focus on the housing sector.
Thomas, who joins as a partner, was formerly a partner at Cushman & Wakefield, leading its London and South East land team with responsibility for residential, student and co-living land transactions. Before that he worked for BNP Paribas Real Estate and Strutt & Parker.
He started his career in 2010 as part of Montagu Evans’ graduate training programme, staying with the firm until 2013.
In this new role, Thomas will lead the partnership’s land team, working closely with investment, planning and advisory colleagues, as well as Montagu Evans’ landowner clients. He will be charged with unlocking value and delivering development opportunities across all areas of the housing lifecycle.
His appointment follows Andrew Ludiman joining Montagu Evans in January to spearhead its residential markets activity.
Montagu Evans partner Adrian Owen said: “Underlying the significant opportunities that the housing sector currently presents is the need for broader thinking about land and site supply. The ability to put in place new transactional and funding structures to deliver high-quality development is essential. Richard’s wide-ranging experience on behalf of some of the largest London and regional developers, his recent focus on sectors such as student housing and co-living, and his deep technical and legal knowledge will be an advantage to clients exploring new approaches in this area.”
Thomas added: “There is always potential for better connections throughout the land, planning and development lifecycle, so while the team at Montagu Evans is already very well set up, I am looking forward to adding an extra dimension that will support both private and public sector clients with land and funding as part of this joined up approach. It’s good to be back.”
