Richardson Cordwell has been selected as preferred developer on a 19,140 sq m (206,000 sq ft) mixed development in Nuneaton town centre.
The Midlands-based developer’s £25m retail and leisure scheme beat plans from Miller Developments, Chartwell Land and Taylor Woodrow.
The scheme, to be called The Rope Walk, could include a multiplex of up to nine screens. However, Robin Denness of Lambert Smith Hampton, which is advising Richardson Cordwell, says no final decision on the leisure element has been made.
He explained to EGi: “We are working up a detailed planning application but occupier demand will decide whether we have an eight or nine screen cinema or have a mix of licensed and leisure, A3 and health and fitness uses.”
The scheme will be anchored by a department store of up to 7,432 sq m (80,000 sq ft). The developer hopes to be able to start trading before Christmas 2000.
Denis Harvey, leader of the Nuneaton and Bedworth borough council said: “The development will secure the future of the town centre, by bringing in department stores, new national retailers and leisure facilities.”
