Richardsons in hospital

Richardsons Developments are proposing to redevelop the 1.8-acre St Chad’s Hospital site, Hagley Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, as an 80,000-sq ft office scheme.

The central core of the existing hospital building is listed and will be preserved in the £20m new complex.

Richardsons Developments will soon submit a planning application and hope to start work on the two-year project early in the new year.

Having built their reputation on the Merry Hill shopping centre in Dudley and industrial developments in the West Midlands, this proposal represents the first major development taken on by the company in central Birmingham.

St Chad’s represents the most important freehold development opportunity to become available in the area for 20 years.

Richardsons Developments, who purchased the site from the Regional Health Authority, have appointed Neale & Alldridge and Grimley J R Eve to advise on the lettings of the scheme.

Architects are the Diamond Partnership.
