RICS action plan to quell grassroots discontent

The RICS is to formulate an action plan to quell grassroots unrest ignited by steep subscription rises.

At last week’s governing council, representatives expressed concern that the changes in the way the body is run was stifling interest in the 51 local branches.

There was criticism of the bureaucratic regional structure, the loss of local networking and continuing professional development opportunities, and the relevance of much RICS communication material.

The day after the meeting in London, new president Nick Brooke wrote to members of the governing council promising a three-month action plan.

Brooke said some “quick wins” would be put to members of the board on 23 July. “We believe we have captured some key areas of concern and have identified the issues that can be resolved in the short term,” he said.
