RICS has launched an investigation into alleged “unacceptable” behaviour at its recent London Annual Dinner and Dance for its junior organisation, which has left the institution with a £1,700 damages bill.
In a letter to attendees of the 26 April RICS Matrics function at the London Marriott,
“I would like for those people responsible for the fracas to come forward and let me know how it all started so that we can resolve the bad image that they have portrayed of professionals at a prestigious event and in a relatively fine venue.”
The charity event raises money for industry charity LionHeart, with the leading agents booking tables for under 35-year-old members of staff.
RICS Matrics said it had been left with a £1,700 bill owing to the hotel for damages caused to décor and furniture.
This allegedly included: major damage to two tables after they were set alight; a brawl which led to the police being called to the function; food fighting, which led to £250 worth of damage to the décor; and the destruction of a coffee table after a group of attendees sat on top of it.
RICS writes: “These events are supposed to be light hearted and fun. If the public were to see or hear of the disgrace to which certain individuals behaved they would be shocked.”
