The RICS has started its search for a permanent senior independent governor, as Lord Michael Bichard’s interim role approaches its end.
The organisation has appointed headhunter Saxton Bampfylde to find his successor, as well as a new independent member for its governing council.
The RICS confirmed Lord Bichard’s term as interim senior independent governor is ending and that it has “just begun recruitment to fill a permanent position for this role”.
Both roles will support governing council – its highest governing body, tasked with strategic oversight on entry requirements into the profession as well as the setting and enforcing of professional standards – in delivering its responsibilities.
As the two roles are independent, candidates should not be an existing or previous member of the RICS. Both will report to the RICS president.
Successful candidates will support and challenge the RICS’ president, according to the job listing. They will also “act as an intermediary between governance bodies and the executive to ensure the effective delivery of RICS strategy and good governance across the institution”.
Remuneration for the senior independent governor role will be £50,000 per year, while the independent member will be paid £30,000 per year.
The closing date for applications is 25 October.
