RICS rural gets hi-tech revamp as Tew takes over

William Tew is the new head of the 4,000-member RICS Rural faculty. Tew, who will be based at the Westminster HQ, said a new website will be key to improving communications as well as providing impartial analysis and advice to members and the government.

“The rural economy is undergoing considerable adjustment and the need for business advice has never been greater. It must also be remembered that the European Union, WTO and international agreements such as Ramsar will play an increasingly important role in how the UK’s rural economy is managed.”

He added: “RICS Rural will keep rural chartered surveyors informed of these events.”

” In anticipation of the new PPG 25 on managing flood plains, the RICS is urging planning committees to take heed of the dangers of developing on susceptible land.

They must consider whether it is realistic for people to live there and what will happen if they are flooded so regularly that they cannot buy insurance cover, said David Brooks, chairman of it cross-industry working group on flood and coastal defence.
