Ascot Racecourse will play host to more than 1,000 industry professionals today, eight of whom will go head to head on the straight mile in a horse racing charity stunt.
The amateur jockeys, including three competitors from Savills and two from Knight Frank, have each passed stringent tests, including a weight limit of 12 stone, to make sure they are fit to take on the challenge.
Dubbed the Charity Race, the event is one of a full day of races scheduled as part of the well established industry event The Property Race Day, officially supported by Estates Gazette.
The riders are Chris Dickin of Clay Street, Tom Faber, Madeleine Uren and Sophie Harden of Savills, Lucy Haynes and Amelia Owen of Knight Frank, Freddie Jackson of Cripps LLP and John Reddington of Reddington Construction.
Jackson, a property dispute lawyer and Women in Property committee member, will be among the tallest of the jockeys, standing at 6’1″.
The challengers have each committed to raising at least £5,000 to take part, and are expected to be cheered on by a lively crowd of industry peers.
Property Race Day is now in its ninth year and this will be the second Charity Race to have been staged. Reddington will be defending the title, having won the cup on his steed Avon Reed in 2013.
The Property Race day itself, a spirited fundraising and networking occasion, has raised more than £1.2m for children’s charities.
This year LandAid, The Children’s Trust, Hope Foundation, Project Hope and SOS Children’s Villages stand to benefit.
