New leadership at Savills

James Sparrow, head of Savills’ UK professional services, is to take over as chief executive of the UK and Europe from 1 January 2019.

He will succeed Mark Ridley, who is promoted to group chief executive and chairman.

Current group chief executive Jeremy Helsby will retire.

Richard Rees, head of national development services, will become UK managing director.

Ridley, who joined Savills in 1996, has been chief executive of Savills’ UK commercial business since May 2008, chief executive of Savills UK since January 2013 and of Savills Europe since September 2014.

He has been a member of Savills Group executive board since its establishment in February 2008 and will join the board of Savills plc as deputy group chief executive on 1 May 2018.

Ridley said he was looking forward to the “challenges and opportunities” his new role would present.
