The value of public-sector contracts being put out to tender has risen since June’s Brexit vote.
Contracts with a value of £26.3bn were put out to tender in the first half of this month, research for The Times by Tussell shows. That compares with £25.2bn in the second half of July, giving a weekly total of £13bn for the last month. The average in the previous 10 weeks – the period around the referendum vote – was £8bn.
Separately, figures from Barbour ABI show a decline in infrastructure spending, with the value of infrastructure contracts falling by 20% on the month and 23% on the year in July to £1.5bn.
