Ritblat appointed chairman of Lehman’s advisory council

Outgoing British Land chairman Sir John Ritblat has been appointed chairman of Lehman Brothers’ newly formed European Real Estate Private Equity (REPE) Advisory Council.

Lehmans said Sir John, who announced in September he would be stepping down as chairman of the UK’s second largest listed property company in December, would provide strategic advice to the firm on European transactions by Lehman Brothers’ real estate opportunity funds.

Sir John Ritblat, one of UK property’s most well-known figures, will become Honorary President of British Land on 1 January 2007.

He became managing director of Union Property Holdings in 1969, and chairman and CEO of British Land in 1971 following its merger with Union.

Sir John is also the non-executive chairman of Colliers CRE, chairman of Trustees of The Wallace Collection and chairman of the Board of Governors, London Business School.

Jeremy Isaacs, chief executive officer of Lehman Brothers Europe and Asia, said: “Sir John Ritblat has a reputation second to none in the real estate business and I am delighted that he has decided to join Lehman Brothers in this capacity.

“His appointment is a testament to the strength of Lehman Brothers’ real estate franchise.”
