The Ritz owner Sir Frederick Barclay has taken a legal action against members of his own family after claiming to have been bugged by his nephew.
The 85-year-old businessman and his daughter Amanda claim that his twin brother David’s three sons, Alistair, Aidan and Howard, and Aidan’s son Andrew, were parties to the recording of their private conversations over several months.
The legal action alleges misuse of private information, breach of confidence and breach of data laws against the four relatives and Barclay group board member Philip Peters.
A High Court judge was told on Monday that the bugging only came to light when Alistair was filmed “handling the bug placed in the conservatory at the Ritz”.
