A higher offer from South African firm Steinhoff for Argos-owner Home Retail Group puts Sainsbury’s’ bid in doubt.
Steinhoff, which owns furniture chain Harveys, has offered £1.4bn at 175p per share. Sainsbury’s has to make a firm offer before a deadline on Tuesday.
