New £220m plans for a replica of the original Crystal Palace are being drawn up by a consortium of local businessmen.

The New Crystal Palace company will shortly be submitting plans for a building which will incorporate galleries, a snow slope, music auditorium, leisure facilities and a hotel.

These plans could rival those put forward by the London Development Agency which proposes a £67m scheme of student housing, 180 private homes and an indoor swimming pool.

Plans will be submitted to Bromley Council for permission within the next eight months.

The original building was built by Sir Joseph Paxton for the Great Exhibition of 1851 but was destroyed by fire in 1936.
