Riverside campus set for Northampton

The University of Northampton has secured outline planning consent for a £330m waterside campus in Northampton.

The development will see the university’s two existing campuses in Northampton consolidated onto a new riverside site, located within Northampton’s enterprise zone.

The proposals comprise 592,000 sq ft of academic accommodation, 1,500 student homes, 322,900 sq ft of commercial development along with sports facilities and a central CHP plant.

The project will also provide a new pedestrian/cycle bridge, a bridge across the River Nene and extensive public realm as part of the wider infrastructure improvements.

The university hopes to open a new campus in autumn 2018.

Professor Nick Petford, vice chancellor of the University of Northampton, said: “We have worked hard to create a campus development in the heart of Northampton that will have great facilities for students, staff and the community of Northampton.”

Savills is advising.
